We live in an age where we spend a lot of time in our cars. No, I don’t mean that you bought a new car and love it so much you sleep in it. I mean that we spend a lot of time driving them in our daily commute. Regardless if we’re going to work, or grocery shopping, a car is essential.

In these conditions, people are aiming for tires that can offer the longest lifespan and most comfortable ride. It doesn’t mean that they will perform poorly, but the emphasis won’t be on superb grip and handling.

Touring tires aren’t something new and have been on the market for quite some time. The excellent balance between the refinement, tread life and performance are what makes them attractive with most car owners.

Practically every tire manufacturer has a touring tire in its lineup. Thanks to the variety in brands, we have tons of brands to choose from. Depending on your budget and car, you can pick anything from the cheapest Chinese tires, which I rarely recommend, to the most expensive premium ones. The tire I’ll be looking into today comes from the premium segment.

Goodyear is a brand that has been around for a long time. The brand was in F1 for over 3 decades, meaning that it’s capable of producing excellent tires, something we’re well aware of. If you follow the tire industry, you may have heard of Goodyear’s TripleTred tires from a while ago. Several years ago, the tire got an upgrade and was placed on the market as the TripleTred All-Season. The first version was excellent and Goodyear promises that it made substantial changes that make this one even better.

As you can guess, calling a tire TripleTred All-Season, means that there are technically 3 tread designs. Each one if in a different part of the tire and all of them work together to offer you the best possible performance.

Naturally, the zones are called Dry, Water and Ice all of which are part of a rubber compound designed to work in multiple conditions. Goodyear aimed to implement a compound that is capable of remaining pliable in freezing temperatures, something you’d expect from an all-season tire.

Dry performance is backed by the outer area of the tire, called the Dry zone. The large blocks at the shoulders are designed to bring improvements in two area. You should expect the TripleTred All-Season to have plenty of grip in the corners and offer a more responsive feel.

For performance in wet conditions, the TripleTred All-Season features a water zone. This part of the tire is designed with deeper grooves called Aquachutes. Their main task is to help the tire exavuate the water and enable constant contact with the surface. The water gets removed through the sipes between the blocks around the shoulders.

Winter performance is backed by the ice zone, which should boast the overall winter performance. The interlocking treads and biting edges on the blocks are designed to increase traction on snow and ice.

How does it behave on dry tarmac?

The TripleTred All-Season is an excellent performer when you drive it on dry roads.

Goodyear’s dry zone does its job like the previous model and even better in some cases. The tire provides plenty of traction when accelerating hard and can hook up easily. Even though it can spin up, it takes quite a lot to do that.

Cornering grip is also impressive and you can go into a corner harder. Don’t expect your car to feel like it’s on rails, but the levels of grip are among the best in its class.

In terms of handling, the TripleTred All-Season is surprisingly good, considering that it’s a touring tire. Responsiveness is great and the feedback through the steering it decent. It’s not as good as the Continental ExtremeContact DWS, but it can still put a smile on your face.

How does it behave over wet and slippery roads?

Wet performance is another area where the TripleTred All-Season performs very good, among the best in class. Even though the Continental PureContact LS will perform better, we are talking about marginally better performance.

Traction and grip are excellent and the TripleTred All-Season provides plenty of confidence and safe driving feel. Under normal driving, the tire won’t skip a beat and even if you push it, you won’t notice a lot of slip. This also means that you can expect to have very short braking distances, which only verifies how safe the tire is.

The water zone is the area where the tire gets evacuated and the grooves and sipes are doing a marvelous job at it. It means that you will be getting a tire with one of the best aquaplaning resistances on the market. 

How is it over snow?

It’s an all-season tire, so if you expect decent snow performance, you are right. Goodyear took the recipe of the previous generation and improved it, meaning that the TripleTred All-Season is excellent on the snow.

In lighter conditions, the tire performs outstandingly and can be outperform by only a handful of tires. With a lot of snow, things change and the tire retains some of its properties as long as it’s unpacked snow. In both scenarios, you can expect to have very short braking distances when compared with other all-season touring tires.

It’s the same scenario on ice covered roads. Even though you have very limited traction in these conditions, the TripleTred All-Season can provide enough traction to have a safe driving experience.

Is it comfortable and refined?

I’ve praised the tire up until this point, but this is where the TripleTred All-Season isn’t as impressive.

On the comfort side of things, Goodyear did a good job. The previous model was very comfortable and things haven’t changed too much here. You will get a very smooth ride with almost no vibrations in the cabin.

The biggest problem with the TripleTred All-Season is the noise. It’s by no mean obnoxious, but it’s noticeable louder than its competitors. 

Is it good for off-roading?

Like most touring tires, the TripleTred All-Season isn’t meant to be driven off-road and you shouldn’t do that. It’s not tough enough to survive a beating in those conditions and you wouldn’t get the desired performance.

With that said, you can get some passable traction on gravel, which is the most you should expect from it.

Is the Goodyear TripleTred All-Season ideal for sporty driving?

Surprisingly, yes, the TripleTred All-Season is not the worst touring tire for sporty driving. Like I said, it’s not as good as some models that combine comfort and performance, but it’s far from the worst.

The responsiveness in combination with the steering feedback works great. You won’t wait for the tire to respond and you will know what the front tires are doing.

In terms of traction and grip, it’s not idea for a track day, but you can have some fun on a twisty road.

In terms of warranty, the TripleTred All-Season comes with one of the longest warranty in this category. With 80,000-mile treadwear warranty, it’s on top with the other touring tires from premium brands like the Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack and Michelin Defender T+H.

As a result, this means that you get a longer warranty when compared with Continental’s PureContact LS.

Yes, especially when you compare it with its rivals. The TripleTred All-Season starts from $82 which technically falls near the more expensive mid-range tires.

The other premium competitors are slightly more expensive, making this an excellent bang for the buck tire.

If you need a long-lasting all-season touring tire with decent performance, the TripleTred All-Season is an excellent option. It’s far from the perfect tire for everyone, but I believe that most people would find it to be the perfect for them.

You will be getting an excellent performance throughout the year. The TripleTred All-Season provides plenty of traction and grip in all conditions and you won’t feel like you need more. You can also get a decently dependable snow performance, as long as thing aren’t too harsh.

The sporty driving feel is also there, thanks to the TripleTred All-Season’s properties that make the tire responsive and not-muted. Don’t expect UHP tire properties, but enthusiasts may find it decent enough for a bit of fun.

You will be making a slight sacrifice in the refinement section, mainly in the noise department. It’s not as worse as an off-road tire on a paved road, but there are quieter tires.

Apart from a few minor complaints, the TripleTred All-Season is an excellent touring tire that you can use throughout the year.
