Modern technology and the advancements we’ve seen in the past decades are one of the main reasons why we’re looking at major leaps in the automotive industry. Cars are becoming more powerful, faster, safer – overall better, so tires need to keep up.
Tire manufacturers are using the latest and greatest technologies to ensure that they make tires that can handle everything newer cars throw at them.
To ensure that the tires can keep up with the newer vehicle models, manufacturers release new or refreshed models every few years. Having plenty of models to choose from is good for us as consumers because get to choose which segment we’ll be going for.
Today’s review will cover a model from the premium segment. Goodyear released the Wrangler Steadfast HT in 2022, an all-season highway tire for CUVs, SUVs and light trucks. We know Goodyear makes some excellent tires, so how good is this one?

The Features of the Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT
By definition, highway tires are designed to offer longevity and refinement without compromising performance, which is what the Wrangler Steadfast HT aims to deliver.
The first and most important feature of this tire is the compound. Since it’s an all-season tire, Goodyear utilized rubber which should be capable of delivering performance in lower temperatures. It’s the best way to ensure that a tire would be usable in colder temperatures. Definitely better than summer compounds that don’t flex under certain temperatures.
Even though this isn’t an off-road capable tire, there is a feature that should help it with longevity. By incorporating DuPont Kevlar into the tread, the manufacturer aims to offer a durable tire that will handle daily usage without showing any weakness. To back up this claim, the tire comes with a 70,000-mile treadwear warranty.
We don’t always drive in dry conditions, and this tire has a little something to help in non-ideal conditions, specifically wet roads. The tread pattern is designed with wider grooves, helping the tire evacuate water and resist aquaplaning. As part of the tire, there are the sipes across the blocks, whose goal is to improve traction on slippery surfaces.
The pattern is also designed to offer improvements in the refinement area, meaning that we should be looking at a quiet tire. In addition to that, the sidewall is designed to offer a plus ride, so the comfort shouldn’t be compromised.
Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT in Dry Conditions
Considering that you’re probably looking at the Wrangler Steadfast HT as a daily driver, the performance in dry conditions isn’t something that will disappoint you.
The tire’s grip and traction levels are excellent, which is what you’d expect from a premium tire. It holds the road well and is generally neutral. As long as you stay within the limits, you won’t have any issues with understeer or oversteer. It’s not a performance tire, but it can handle some aggressiveness without too many issues. The braking distances are pretty short and safe, putting it near the top of its class, just a bit behind the leaders.
Despite not being a UHP tire, the handling is surprisingly dynamic. It responds fairly quickly to inputs, considering it’s a highway tire, and the feedback isn’t as muted as I thought it would be. My only complaint is that it lacks a bit more precision, but at the end of the day, it’s not really designed for that.
Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT on Wet or Slippery Roads
Wet performance is something that the Wrangler Steadfast HT handles well, but like in dry conditions, it’s not the best in this segment.
Damp roads are pretty tricky and some tires struggle, which isn’t the case with this one. The traction is pretty solid and will prevent slip on accelerating. When it comes to cornering, the grip is generally good, but the levels aren’t super high, so it will let go of the road. In most cases, it’s pretty controllable on the limit, but you’ll need to be prepared for some understeer if you go into a corner too fast. In terms of braking distances, they’re pretty similar to before – short and safe, but not the shortest in this category.
Another aspect worth mentioning is the aquaplaning resistance. Goodyear nailed it with the tread design, allowing the tire to evacuate water excellent and remain quite stable.
Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT in Snow
So far, the Wrangler Steadfast HT did a pretty good job delivering exceptional performance. Unfortunately, it’s not as impressive in snowy conditions.
The overall performance on snow is adequate to make this a usable tire for daily driving scenarios. It can handle unpacked snow up to a few inches of depth decently well thanks to the more aggressive pattern. The packed snow can be a bit problematic, so make sure you’re not too aggressive to keep the wheel spin to a minimum. You should also keep in mind that the braking distances are far from the shortest in the all-season segment. The overall performance puts it behind the Dueler LX.
Things don’t improve all that much on ice. There’s barely any traction to be called usable, even when compared to other tires from this category. You’re also looking at pretty long braking distances, so avoid ice if possible.
Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT Off-Roading
The Wrangler Steadfast HT has a feature that helps it with durability and longevity, but that’s not enough for off-roading performance. Highway tires are for the road, and this one is no different. Some usable traction on a dirt road may be enough to satisfy your need in a pinch, but that’s all you should expect.
Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT for Sporty Driving
You’re not looking at a highway tire for its spottiness, so you shouldn’t expect that from the Wrangler Steadfast HT. The tire’s performance is excellent for daily driving scenarios and even though it can handle some aggressiveness, it’s not a performance tire. It may feel like a sporty tire due to its responsive nature, but the lack of precision and sticky performance makes this a poor choice for a winding road or a track.
Does the Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT Ride Comfortably?
One of the main selling points of highway tires is the refinement, and the Wrangler Steadfast HT delivers on this front.
The noise levels are pretty good and for the most part, you’re in for a generally quiet ride. It’s not the quietest in this category, but it’s far from some of its louder competitors. The tire is pretty quiet around town and provided some slightly noticeable tones at higher speeds.
Comfort is something it does well and mostly offers a smooth ride. There are situations where it feels just a bit stiff, especially when you drive on bad roads with repetitive bumps. I wouldn’t categorize this as something horrible, but it’s worth mentioning.
Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT Warranty
The Wrangler Steadfast HT comes with a 70,000-mile treadwear warranty, which is pretty good for a premium model. As a comparison, it’s on the same level as the TerrainContact H/T, which is its direct competitor. It’s also better than the Wrangler Workhorse HT, which is in the same category.
Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT Pricing: Is It Worth the Price?
Even though we’re talking about a premium tire, the Wrangler Steadfast HT is decently affordable, especially when you compare it with some of its rivals. Looking at a commonly sized 17-inch model shows that it’s noticeably more affordable than the Defender LTX M/S2.
Should I Buy the Goodyear Wrangler Steadfast HT?
The Wrangler Steadfast HT is a tire that won’t win any awards in a certain metric, but it’s a tire that offers more than enough for everything to make it a good all-rounder.
Performance in dry and wet conditions is something the tire doesn’t lack. You won’t have enough to push it hard, but you’ll have plenty for daily driving scenarios. Combine this with the excellent handling, and you have a tire that won’t disappoint you. Winter performance won’t impress anyone, as the traction and grip levels are average.
In the refinement department, the tire does a pretty good job with only a few small remarks. Despite being a premium tire, it’s not the most expensive in its class, and it comes with a long treadwear durability, so it’s a fantastic combination.
As long as you’re looking for an all-season highway tire that you won’t need to rely on too much in winter conditions, the Wrangler Steadfast HT is an magnificent tire. You can at least shortlist it and compare it with its direct competitors and see which package works the best for you.
