The Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady isn’t your average all-season grand touring tire.
Mainly because your standard A/S tires don’t have the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) certification, which has made this tire adept at handling packed and unpacked snow.
Neither do most grand touring tires feature a soy-based tread compound. The specialized rubber compound enables this tire to stay flexible at low temperatures. This, in turn, gives the WeatherReady the traction needed to stay stable in wintry conditions.
There’s another difference between this tire and its colleagues. Instead of the usual symmetric tread design, it has an asymmetric tread pattern. Due to this, it works as well as its rivals in dry conditions but stops a few meters shorter on wet and snowy roads.

The Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady is a winter-focused all-season tire.
Such tires are more commonly referred to as all-weather tires. While they perform better in wet and wintry conditions, all-weather tires have a shorter tread life than standard A/S tires.
Need proof? Go back to the features highlighted at the start of this article. Thanks to the soy-based tread compound and 3PMSF certification, the WeatherReady offers better snow traction than a standard all-season tire.
Additionally, Goodyear has equipped this model with Evolving Traction Grooves. These narrow slits tend to widen as this tire’s tread depth decreases. So, even when this model’s tread depth hits 2/32-inch, it will continue to provide adequate traction on the road.
That we’re yet to talk about this tire’s dry performance doesn’t mean it will struggle when there’s no water on the roads. Instead, barring the most expert driver, most people cannot distinguish this tire’s wet and dry performance.
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady in Dry Conditions
Many customers who have used this tire on dry roads report positive experiences.
This shouldn’t be a surprise, given that it comes with an asymmetric tread pattern. This tread design can generally be seen on high-performance tires because it provides added grip on dry roads.
As such, you can expect shorter braking distances under the sun.
That said, there’s one area where this tire exposes its penchant for wet roads. A few drivers reported that high temperatures could hurt its performance. That means that the WeatherReady may wear more quickly if you push it to its limits.
However, that shouldn’t be an issue for most people, as most opting for all-season tires do so for everyday driving, which is where this tire excels.
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady on Wet or Slippery Roads
Multiple design elements help enhance this model’s wet performance:
- A soy-based tread compound enhances its wet traction by keeping the tire flexible in ultra-low temperatures. The result? Much shorter braking distances (vis-à-vis standard all-season tires) in the rain.
- Dual aqua channel grooves ensure quick and effective water evacuation. These water channels perform an excellent job of evacuating water from within and beneath the tread, minimizing the risk of skidding and slipping.
- The 3D Tredlock Technology opens the tread block on wet roads. This, in turn, expands this model’s contact patch (the patch of rubber which comes into touch with the road), helping it deliver enhanced traction.
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady in Snow
The Assurance WeatherReady is one of the best all-season tires for snow.
In addition to the already-mentioned tread compound and 3PMSF certification, this model features zigzag sipes on its tread blocks. Their role is to provide additional biting edges, helping this tire make full use of its flexible rubber compound to deliver better wintry traction.
That’s not to say that you have to drive this tire to experience its excellent snow performance. The 3PMSF designation (which indicates that this tire has been certified to excel on snow and ice) should make you a believer even before you’ve set eyes on its price tag.
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady Off-Roading
The Assurance WeatherReady shouldn’t be relied upon for off-roading.
Despite using this tire for over 50,000 miles, I’m yet to come across one reason why anyone might trust it for offering enough grip on loose dirt or rocky terrain. And this isn’t the least bit surprising, given that the WeatherReady is an all-weather, not a mud-terrain tire.
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady for Sporty Driving
Although it does have a few features needed for sporty driving, I still wouldn’t recommend pushing this model to its limits.
The features I alluded to above are the flexible tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern. While they may give it the grip needed for stable high-speed driving. Neither of them can keep this model from wearing quickly if you use it for sporty driving.
Does the Assurance WeatherReady Ride Comfortably?
It depends on the road you’re driving on.
On well-paved roads, this tire is super-quiet. The road noise produced by this tire will be so low you can drive with windows rolled all the way down and still won’t hear a ruckus. Similarly, it does an excellent job of absorbing minor imperfections.
Unfortunately, the ride quality takes a noticeable hit over rough tarmac and sharp bends. That won’t make this tire’s ride super-annoying. Still, compared with premium all-season tires, you’ll hear more road noise inside the cabin.
Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady Warranty
Goodyear backs the Assurance WeatherReady with a 60,000-mile treadwear warranty.
Could the warranty be better? I think it could be. Case in point: Cooper CS5 Grand Touring comes with up to 80,000-mile mileage guarantee (depending on tire size). However, to be fair, the CS5 struggles in other areas, such as snow and ice traction. So it cannot be said that it’s a better tire overall.
Also, while it’s true that this tire could have come with a bigger warranty, we shouldn’t ignore the fact that all the sipes and channels that have enhanced its wet performance also take a toll on its tread life.
Goodyear Assurance Weatherready Pricing: Is It Worth the Money?
At the time of writing, this tire’s price starts from approximately $141.99.
This is an eye-watering figure for an all-weather tire. Yet it is one that the WeatherReady can justify, especially for drivers who do a lot of their daily driving on wet and snowy roads.
However, for anyone who will mainly use this tire on dry roads, the asking price might be a pill too bitter to swallow.
Should I Buy the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady?
If you do a lot of your daily driving in the rain or over snow, the Assurance WeatherReady should be one of the options on your wish list.
After all, which other all-season tire can have so many features dedicated to harsh weather driving? True, the WeatherReady charges a steep price for its offerings. But when juxtaposed with its wet and wintry performance, its asking price can be explained (albeit with a few ifs and buts).
