We often talk about touring tires here, mainly because they’re the most popular choice with many car owners. Solid performance, combined with excellent refinement from a long-lasting tire, is what most people want, right? Yes, but there are those that need something else.
Performance tires have been a thing for quite a long time, and we have car manufacturers to thank for that. The existence of sporty cars means they need a set of tires that can handle the performance and bring out the driving characteristics. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like you cannot put a set of all-season touring tires on your Supra, but where’s the fun in that?
I’m a sucker for a good UHP tire, and for a while, I had the ExtremeContact DWS06 at the top of my list, along with a few other premium models. Back in 2021, Continental released a refreshed version dubbed the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus, promising several improvements.
This raises the question: did Continental pull it off, or is the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus all show and no go? Let’s find out.

The Features of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus
When it comes to the set of features, they aren’t too different than the ones I outlined in the review of this tire’s predecessor. Despite that, let’s see what the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus offers, at least in theory.
The DWS in the tire’s name stands for dry, wet, and snow, meaning that the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is an all-season tire. To achieve that, Continental relied on its trusty rubber compound to help the tire deliver performance in those less-than-ideal conditions.
In addition to the compound, the pattern has certain features to help the tire deliver better performance. Continental utilized its SportPlus technology to help the tire deliver more grip and traction on dry and wet roads. In addition to that, you also have the asymmetric pattern with specially designed blocks to help with the handling characteristics.
As part of the tread pattern, Continental implemented a few things to improve wet performance. The ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus features wide and high-angle grooves, which should help the tire provide excellent aquaplaning resistance. For grip and traction, the tire is designed with 3D sipes, which should help it claw on a damp road.
Winter performance is backed by the sipes along with the Traction Grooves. This should result in a tire that will offer excellent performance in snowy conditions, at least as much as an all-season tire can provide.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus in Dry Conditions
On dry roads, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is a tire that will offer tons of performance and won’t disappoint even if you’re an aggressive driver.
The tire’s performance levels under normal driving conditions are excellent. You’ll have grip and traction far higher than what you’d need, and even if you’re aggressive, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus will be fine. There’s plenty of room to get aggressive, and despite being an all-season tire, you can play around with it on a twisty road or even on a track. As part of the package, you’re getting short braking distances, meaning they’re safe, despite being slightly longer than the Pilot Sport All Season 4.
It all sounds good, but there’s a small caveat. The ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is excellent, but if you compare it with some of its rivals from the premium segment, you’ll notice it’s just a bit behind. To be fair, this is mostly pronounced on a track, meaning that on the road, the difference is unnoticeable.
Another positive side of the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is the handling. Since we’re talking about a UHP tire, you’re getting plenty of responsiveness from a tire that’s very precise. You can make smaller corrections, and the tire’s linear nature means that it won’t become twitchy. My biggest complaint is about the feedback. Sure, it’s not muted like a touring tire, but I’d want to feel a bit more through the steering wheel.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus on Wet or Slippery Roads
Continental knows how to make a good-performing tire in wet conditions, so you can expect the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus to have your back.
The tire deals with damp roads like a champ, giving you plenty of traction to prevent wheelspin even with more powerful cars. It’s the same story with the cornering grip. You won’t notice massive amounts of understeer unless you get too carried away. If you push it too far, you will notice a bit of understeer, but luckily, the tire is easy to handle in these conditions, so it will be easy to correct it.
On the safety side of things, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus doesn’t disappoint. The tire offers some of the shortest braking distances in its class, meaning that the safety remains uncompromised. For driving in harsh rain, the tire’s grooves do a phenomenal job of evacuating water and offering superb stability when driving over deeper water patches.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus in Snow
The ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is an all-season tire, and as such, it offers pretty decent performance in winter conditions.
While it’s not comparable with a proper winter tire, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus decently deals with shallow unpacked snow. The traction is there, and you shouldn’t have massive issues as long as you’re driving in lighter conditions. The performance is also available on packed snow, and even though it’s easier to slip, I still wouldn’t call it terrible by any means. All of this comes in combination with the relatively short braking distances, meaning that you won’t feel like it’s lacking.
One thing it does lack is ice performance. Like many of its rivals, including the ones from the mid-range segment, you won’t have ice traction.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus Off-Roading
The ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is a performance tire for the road, meaning that off-roading should be off-limits. Even though it may seem like you can drive on a dirt road, the problem is that you can damage it, so I’d recommend sticking to paved surfaces.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus for Sporty Driving
Since we’re talking about a UHP tire, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is an excellent choice for sporty driving. The tire may not be a track weapon, but it’s a tire that will satisfy most enthusiasts needs.
On the performance side of things, the tire’s grip and traction levels are very high. Even though I mentioned that it’s a bit behind some of its rivals, the differences are only noticeable on the track. For road use, even on a twisty road, it will be more than enough.
The handling is also very impressive, and even though it’s not the world’s most communicative tire, it still does a pretty good job. It’s responsive and precise, which is what most of us need. Even though it lacks a bit of feedback, I still wouldn’t call it a bad performer.
Does the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus Ride Comfortably?
Whenever you go for a UHP tire, it’s important to be aware that the comfort levels will be compromised. With the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus, things aren’t as terrible as they may seem.
Thanks to the internal construction, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus manages to be a very comfortable tire. Yes, it has some stiffness, and you will feel some bumps, but it won’t be unbearably harsh. The best part is that you won’t notice too many vibrations in the cabin, something that many of its rivals will struggle with.
The noise levels are also very good, and the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus doesn’t produce a lot of growl. You won’t be comparing it with models from the touring segment, but as a performance-oriented model, it won’t be very intrusive. At the end of the day, it’s a small compromise for the performance you’re getting.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus Warranty
I often praise Continental for offering an excellent tire warranty, and the same goes for the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus. The tire comes with a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty, which is more than competitive models from Goodyear or Michelin. It also means it’s on the same level as its Pirelli rival.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus Pricing: Is It Worth the Price?
One of the many things that Continental is known for is offering affordable-ish premium tires. The ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is priced below many of its competitors. For example, a common 18-inch tire comes in at below $200, while many of its rivals are above that mark.
Should I Buy the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus?
Whenever I recommend a tire, I mention that it’s important to consider the use cases. With the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus, I can recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent blend of performance and refinement.
The ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus does an excellent job in multiple conditions, offering plenty of performance combined with short braking distances and dynamic handling. It does this without compromising refinement, which is why it will suit most people’s needs, even the aggressive ones.
Overall, as long as you’re not looking for a tire that will be the best on a track, the ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus is an excellent choice that you should consider.
