In the world of tires, we’ve reached a point where there are multiple options depending on the type of vehicle and you as a driver. With touring all-season tires being the most popular choice, it’s understandable why manufacturers have so many of those to choose from.
Looking at the premium segment, there are a good number of manufacturers to choose from, giving us a good amount of flexibility. Not all tires are created equally, meaning they’ll perform differently. In addition to that, the price will vary slightly.

The Dueler H/P Sport AS is an all-season touring tire for CUVs and SUVs, and Bridgestone aims to cover all the features needed to deliver on its promises.
One of the most notable features of this tire is the rubber compound. It’s the company’s all-season low rolling resistance one, which should help deliver year-round performance and improve fuel economy.
Another essential feature that should make this a good touring tire revolves around the wear. The optimized cavity shape is designed to help it wear evenly, thus lasting longer.
Apart from the compound, there is another feature that helps this tire with its wet performance. The design features a network of sipes and slots aimed at helping the tire improve traction in these conditions.
For the harsher one, like pouring rain where you’ll need to drive in standing water, the tire is designed with 4 circumferential grooves that work with the slots, which should deliver excellent aquaplaning resistance.

The Dueler H/P Sport AS is a touring tire delivering very good performance in dry conditions.
Most drivers would be perfectly happy with how the tire performs and the levels of grip and traction it offers. It’s not comparable with something from the performance segment, but it does a pretty good job in this one. Some of the newer models seem to be doing better, something the average driver won’t notice.
On the other hand, the non-average driver, an enthusiast, would want to know how it performs when pushed to the limit. The performance is there, and the tire handles some aggressiveness. It combines that with short braking distances, making it a safe tire.
It’s also surprisingly dynamic for a touring tire. The amount of feedback is solid, and when you combine that with the precise nature, you’re getting a confidence-inspiring tire.

Another strong side of the Dueler H/P Sport AS is the wet performance. Like before, some of its newer competitors are doing a slightly better job, but it’s not a massive difference.
Damp roads are not a problem thanks to the tire’s design and rubber compound. It delivers high levels of grip and traction, allowing you to have a safe experience without any slip. You can get aggressive and start sliding if you go past its limits. Luckily, they’re high enough so that you won’t experience that on a daily basis. You’re also looking at short braking distances, which are pretty good, even by today’s standards.
Another positive side is the aquaplaning resistance. The tire remains stable when driving on standing water, even at slightly higher speeds.

Fitting a set of all-season tires means you’re not expecting plenty of performance, especially in harsh conditions. The Dueler H/P Sport AS does a decent job, but it’s not the best.
Under normal conditions and light inputs, the tire does a decent enough job. The pattern does well on unpacked snow, so you won’t have too many issues as long as you’re careful. Packed snow can be problematic, and you’ll notice the tire struggling for traction occasionally. The braking distances are safe enough, but nothing to write home about.
Considering how much the tire can struggle in lighter conditions, you can probably guess it won’t do well in harsher ones. Deep snow is doable up to a point, but it’s far from usable, so make sure to avoid that. Ice is also a problem and the tire will have a hard time finding any kind of usable traction.

Putting the Dueler H/P Sport AS on an off-road-ready vehicle doesn’t mean it will do a good job in those conditions. Anything more than a dirt road is something you should avoid because the tire won’t be able to deliver the performance you need.
Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport AS for Sporty Driving
Even though there is “sport” in the name, the Dueler H/P Sport AS is not the sportiest tire. The performance is enough for daily driving, and it can handle some aggressiveness, but it’s not the kind an enthusiast would consider excellent. One thing that makes it good is the handling. For a touring tire, it can be fun and dynamic, which can be an attractive characteristic for some.
Does the Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport AS Ride Comfortably?
Premium touring tires are all about refinement, and the Dueler H/P Sport AS is no different. With that said, it’s not perfect.
The comfort levels are excellent, especially with larger bumps and potholes. It can easily absorb and dampen them, preventing vibrations from entering the cabin. The dynamic nature also means you’ll need to be prepared to feel the road a bit more. Unlike some of its rivals, it doesn’t smooth imperfections, making for just a bit rougher ride.
The noise levels are pretty low, which is what you’d expect from a touring tire. Driving on smooth roads is a very quiet experience, and the noise levels increase slightly when driving on rougher surfaces. You’ll also notice a slightly higher tone when you hit a pothole.

The age of the Dueler H/P Sport AS shows, especially when you look at the warranty. It comes with a treadwear warranty of 40,000, which is behind even its mid-range rivals like the Crugen HP71.
Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport AS Pricing: Is It Worth the Price?
Price is another aspect of the Dueler H/P Sport AS that makes recommending a bit difficult. A 17-inch model comes at a higher price than the CrossContact LX25, a tire that we know is excellent.
Should I Buy the Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport AS?
On paper, the Dueler H/P Sport AS seems to be an excellent tire, but in reality, that’s not the case. The performance is there, but as newer models come to the market, this one seems to fall back.
Dry and wet performance is something this tire does excellently. In both situations, the grip and traction levels are more than enough for most people, combining them with short braking distances. Winter performance leaves a bit more to be desired, so that’s a negative side.
The refinement is another aspect of this tire that won’t disappoint a lot of people. It’s not the most comfortable or quiet tire in its class, but it does a pretty good job. The warranty and price are a let-down, especially when compared to its direct rivals.
The Dueler H/P Sport AS is a tire that I can recommend as one that does a very good job in most situations. With that said, you should consider that without a competitive price tag and performance that’s not class-leading, it’s not exactly a bargain. If you find it at a discount, then yes, it’s a solid choice.
