The tire industry is filled with countless models, each offering unique features and performance. Even though we’re categorizing them based on the general idea of how they perform, you still won’t have two different models with identical performance.
Among the many different categories, we have the touring ones, which are the most common option today. These are the kind of tires you’d get if you want dependable and safe performance, combined with excellent refinement and a long treadwear warranty.
There are plenty of options coming from the premium segment and the one I have for today is from Goodyear. The Assurance All-Season is a tire that’s about a decade old, but it’s still available for sale.
This raises the question: is the tire still relevant, and can it deliver competitive performance against its modern rivals? Let’s find out.

The Features of the Goodyear Assurance All-Season
When it comes to the Assurance All-Season, you won’t see many fancy names of technologies like with many newer models. It’s important to note that this doesn’t necessarily mean a bad tire, so let’s see what this one offers.
The Assurance All-Season is an all-season tire, meaning that Goodyear used an all-season rubber compound. Like any tire from this category, this compound should help it remain soft enough in colder temperatures and remain usable in lighter winter conditions.
Regarding the pattern, the Assurance All-Season features a design with super and biting edges aimed at improving traction in multiple conditions. For the most part, we should see these helping out on wet and snow-covered roads.
While they do help on dry roads, as part of the tread design, the Assurance All-Season also features larger shoulder blocks. The goal of these should be improved handling in multiple conditions.
As a touring tire, Goodyear worked on the Assurance All-Season to help it keep the noise levels down. To achieve that, the manufacturer used an optimized design for the tread, but we’ll see how quiet it is in the real world.
Goodyear Assurance All-Season in Dry Conditions
The Assurance All-Season is a tire designed with daily driving in mind, and I have to say it does a pretty good job.
When you consider that the Assurance All-Season is a relatively old-ish model, I have to say it does an impressive job. The overall performance is excellent for daily driving scenarios, meaning you’ll have enough grip and traction for most situations. Yes, it’s behind the modern premium rivals, but keep in mind that this tire is priced closer to the mid-range segment. The same goes for the braking distances – short and safe.
The Assurance All-Season is far from a performance tire, so the limits won’t be too high. As a result, you have some room to push it a bit if you get carried away but don’t expect miracles.
As for the handling, I feel like the Assurance All-Season does a pretty solid job. There is some responsiveness that is more or less similar to what the rest of the tires in this category have to offer. You won’t have a lot of feedback, and the on-center feel won’t be too pronounced. The tire performs just as most people would expect it to.
Goodyear Assurance All-Season on Wet or Slippery Roads
When it comes to wet performance, I feel like the Assurance All-Season is trailing behind its rivals. I wouldn’t call it unsafe, but there are similarly priced models that do a slightly better job.
The Assurance All-Season isn’t a terrible performer in wet conditions, but it’s not one that you can fully rely on. While it has solid levels of grip and traction, they are behind even some mid-range models. The result of this is a tire that you’ll need to be a bit careful when driving in these conditions. It’s not unsafe, but the average performance combined with the slightly longer braking distances means you won’t get the best. Even when you compare it with models from manufacturers like General, Hankook, or Toyo, the tire still isn’t phenomenal.
As bad as all of this sounds, there are some positive sides to the Assurance All-Season, and the first one is the aquaplaning resistance. You probably won’t be driving way too fast in rainy conditions, so the tire won’t have any issues with stability. Also, even though the tire isn’t a powerhouse, the best part about it is that it’s easily controllable when you approach the limits.
Goodyear Assurance All-Season in Snow
As you can probably guess from the name, the Assurance All-Season is designed with winter performance in mind. It’s not comparable with a proper winter tire, but as an all-season one, it doesn’t do a poor job.
The tire deals with lighter conditions quite well, even when you compare it with some premium models. There’s enough grip and traction to drive in shallower snow, and the packed one won’t be a massive problem. The Assurance All-Season also offers relatively short braking distances, so I don’t have a lot of complaints about it.
Like most all-season tires, this is where the usable performance ends. The Assurance All-Season doesn’t deal with harsher conditions well. Even though the tire handles ice acceptably well, I wouldn’t rely too much on that.
Goodyear Assurance All-Season Off-Roading
Touring tires are meant to be driven on paved roads, so off-roading isn’t something they’re designed to do. The same goes for the Assurance All-Season as well. You won’t get the necessary performance for off-roading. In addition to that, it’s a tire for passenger cars mostly. A quick drive on a dirt road may be fine, but that’s all you should expect from it.
Goodyear Assurance All-Season for Sporty Driving
The Assurance All-Season can do a lot of things, but sporty driving isn’t one of them. While the tire seems to handle daily driving, it’s not a model you can push hard.
Even though I mentioned that the handling is responsive enough, the Assurance All-Season isn’t a tire that can compete in the UHP segment. With that, the feedback, while there, isn’t the most pronounced, meaning that this isn’t a very communicative tire for sporty driving.
Does the Goodyear Assurance All-Season Ride Comfortably?
Despite its age, I feel the Assurance All-Season still does a pretty good job within its own category and price range.
The comfort levels are decent, but it’s not the softest tire in this category. There is some firmness to the ride of the Assurance All-Season, but the important thing is that it’s not too harsh. It can absorb impacts and smooth out imperfections decently well, which is what most of us are after in a touring tire.
I feel like the noise levels are the more impressive part of the Assurance All-Season. Goodyear nailed it with the pattern, giving us a relatively quiet tire. You won’t hear too much of it at slower speeds, while the hum on the highway is decently muted and not overly pronounced.
Goodyear Assurance All-Season Warranty
For the warranty, things are a bit of a mixed bag. The Assurance All-Season comes with a 65,000-mile treadwear warranty, which is a bit behind some mid-range models. With that said, it’s better than some Michelin models. I’d say it’s pretty good but not the best.
Goodyear Assurance All-Season Pricing: Is It Worth the Price?
One thing the Assurance All-Season has going in its favor is that it’s priced closer to the mid-range models than the premium ones. To put that into perspective, a 17-inch model is just a bit more expensive than the Kinergy ST and Kinergy PT but over $100 cheaper than the Energy Saver A/S or the Primacy A/S.
Should I Buy the Goodyear Assurance All-Season?
Looking at the Assurance All-Season as a package, I can say that it’s an excellent tire. It has some downsides, but I don’t think they are dealbreakers.
The tire combines excellent performance in dry conditions with solid handling characteristics. It’s well-refined, affordable, and doesn’t struggle in lighter winter conditions like some of its rivals. The performance on wet roads is behind some of its rivals, just as is the warranty when compared with some mid-range models.
If you can get over the wet performance and be a bit cautious in these conditions, the Assurance All-Season is an excellent choice. The best part is that it comes in smaller sizes, meaning you can fit a set of premium tires on your older car without spending much money.
