Performance tires are often considered the pinnacle of what tire manufacturers can do to offer the highest levels of grip and traction. There are multiple types of tires you can get, ranging from the ones you’d get for track use to those that are just a bit better than the touring models.
The UHP segment sits in the middle, meaning you’re getting excellent performance while keeping the refinement and longevity acceptable. With summer and all-season models available here, today’s tire covers the second category. It’s not as good as its summer counterpart in dry conditions, but it should do a decent job in lighter snow conditions.
Today’s review covers the Azenis FK460 A/S from Falken. This is one of those mid-range options that should offer pretty good performance at a price lower than its premium rivals. Can this model deliver on that, or should you look at other tires?

Considering the type of tire we’re talking about, the Azenis FK460 A/S is a model that will have most of its features revolving around its performance.
On the performance side of things, you have the Advanced 4D Nano Technology used for the rubber compound. The result is a tire that should deliver all-season performance, meaning that light snow is something it should tackle.
Winter isn’t always about low temperatures, and sometimes you need snow performance, which is where the interlocking sipes come into play. They’re designed to help the tire offer usable traction on packed snow. In addition to that, they also help in other weather conditions.
As part of the tread pattern, the tire features 4 circumferential grooves designed to help channel water more efficiently. This feature should result in excellent aquaplaning resistance, meaning stability shouldn’t be an issue.
Falken didn’t forget about refinement, which is where the Canyon Groove technology comes into play. They’re primarily designed to improve braking distances, but Falken designed them to reside in the grooves, meaning it doesn’t increase the noise levels.
Falken Azenis FK460 A/S in Dry Conditions
Regarding dry performance, tires like the Azenis FK460 A/S rarely disappoint. It’s not perfect, but it’s an excellent performer.
For daily driving scenarios, the grip and traction levels are much higher than you’ll probably need. It drives well and offers short braking distances, so it has everything you’d need for driving around town.
Considering the category, the performance is there, and this is a tire that you can push hard. As a mid-range model, it comes close to the premium ones, meaning you won’t be disappointed. My only complaint is that it can catch you by surprise in situations where you ask too much of it. This is especially pronounced in RWD cars.
The handling deserves a round of applause. It’s a very responsive tire with a lively nature and plenty of feedback, making it fun to drive on a twisty road or even on a track.
Falken Azenis FK460 A/S on Wet or Slippery Roads
Not a lot of mid-range tires can get close to the premium ones, but the Azenis FK460 A/S is one of those.
Similar to its behavior in dry conditions, it’s a tire that will offer more than enough for driving on damp roads. The grip and traction levels are high enough, leaving you with some room to push it. It can handle that quite well, putting it close to the g-Force COMP-2 A/S Plus, which is impressive. The handling remains lively, which is also a small complaint here. We’re talking about less-than-ideal conditions, so it takes some getting used to if you plan to push it to its limits.
The tire continues with its positive performance in pouring rain. Thanks to the tread pattern, the aquaplaning resistance is excellent, keeping it stable even at higher speeds.
Falken Azenis FK460 A/S in Snow
As far as the winter performance is concerned, the Azenis FK460 A/S is okay with nothing that would make it stand out from the crowd.
While it was pretty close to the premium models in dry and wet conditions, on snow, it’s just average for its class. It provides traction, enough for driving around town and not expecting miracles. The braking distances are also not too impressive – short enough, but far from the best. One thing worth mentioning is that it doesn’t struggle on packed snow as much as I thought it would.
Ice performance is another area where you shouldn’t expect it to perform like a champ. The traction is average at best, but keep in mind that the braking distances are a bit longer than some of its competitors.
Falken Azenis FK460 A/S Off-Roading
The Azenis FK460 A/S is a tire designed for road use, so it wouldn’t do well in off-road conditions. In addition to that, the compound isn’t as durable as all-terrain or mud-terrain tires, so I wouldn’t recommend relying on it for these conditions. Maybe short drives on dirt roads would be fine, but don’t make it a habit.
Falken Azenis FK460 A/S for Sporty Driving
We are talking about a performance-oriented tire, so the Azenis FK460 A/S gets the sporty badge. The grip and traction levels are excellent, meaning it’s a tire that will handle a lot of aggressiveness without serious problems. Combine that with dynamic handling, and you’ll get a tire that loves to be pushed on a twisty road.
Does the Falken Azenis FK460 A/S Ride Comfortably?
As a performance tire, the Azenis FK460 A/S offers solid refinement levels.
It’s not as comfortable as something from the touring segment, but I think it does a pretty decent job. Despite having some firmness to the ride, it softens up larger bumps well enough to be decent in daily driving scenarios.
The noise levels are also decent, considering the type of tire we’re talking about. Like most performance tires, there is a hum, so it’s not the quietest option out there. If you have a car with decent insulation, it will be fine. With that said, it may get a bit tiresome on longer drives.

The warranty variance in this category isn’t massive, and the Azenis FK460 A/S isn’t lacking in this department. With a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty, it’s identical to the ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus and the P Zero All Season Plus.
Falken Azenis FK460 A/S Pricing: Is It Worth the Price?
Falken positioned the Azenis FK460 A/S to have a competitive price, which shows. A 17-inch model is just a bit more expensive than the G-Max AS-07. The main difference is that the Japanese tires have a Y-speed rating, while General’s models are W-rated.
Should I Buy the Falken Azenis FK460 A/S?
The Azenis FK460 A/S is an excellent tire, and there’s no denying that. As good as that sounds, I wouldn’t say it’s a tire for everyone.
Performance is something that this tire isn’t lacking, especially in dry and wet conditions. There’s more than enough grip and traction, so it’s not lacking in this department. The handling is also pretty good and dynamic, and for some people, it may be too dynamic, especially in wet conditions. Winter performance is there, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best in this regard.
The refinement is solid for a performance tire if you’re willing to live with a bit of hum and a firmer ride. It comes with an excellent treadwear warranty at a price similar to many mid-range rivals.
To sum it up, the Azenis FK460 A/S is an excellent tire if you’re willing to live with some compromises. I think the limited winter performance is the biggest, followed by the handling characteristics when you approach the limits. If you’re fine with these, then it’s an excellent option.
