  • Comfort and noise levels are good for this category
  • Responsive

Cons

  • Off-road performance is average
  • 2-ply internal construction

One of the most versatile types of vehicles available on the market today is trucks. The roomy cabin combined with the softer suspension provides a very comfortable ride. On the other hand, having the large bed on the back means that you can haul bigger cargo than you’d normally would in a family sedan. As a bonus, the bigger ground clearance means that you’d have a vehicle capable of some off-roading.

Most owners don’t rely on all aspects of trucks, but the ones that do are constantly struggling with the tires. For the most part, we purchase tires based on some specific conditions that we drive our cars.

So imagine this, you own light or a medium truck and want a tire that can be used in multiple scenarios. The only tires that can cover multiple use cases are all-terrain ones.

Essentially, these are off-road tires that can be used on the road with some decent performance. They are a combination of touring and off-road tires. Bringing the best of both worlds means that you won’t get the best of the best in those conditions. With that said, as a balanced option, all-terrain tires are an excellent choice.

There are loads of all-terrain choices on the market, and the one I’ll be looking at today comes from a premium brand. Bridgestone’s Dueler A/T Revo 3 is the third version of the Dueler A/T Revo family, and based on the manufacturer’s claims, it should bring some improvements over the previous one.

What are the features of the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3?

Right of the bat, Bridgestone claims to have made some improvements over the second generation, mainly in the wet and snow department.

Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 3 Tire Review

The Dueler A/T Revo 3 features Bridgestone’s Traction Claw technology, aimed at improving snow traction on the road, as well as general off-road performance.

To help the tire perform better on wet surfaces, Bridgestone made some slight changes to the tread. The Dueler A/T Revo 3 features a symmetric design featuring deep and wide grooves and sipes aimed at improving aquaplaning resistance and performance in slush.

Around the shoulders, there are two areas designed to bring improvements.  In off-road conditions over softer surfaces, the staggered shoulder lugs are designed to help improve traction. They are also reinforced, meaning that the tire should be pretty stable when cornering on the road.

The internal construction of the Dueler A/T Revo 3 has a 2-ply polyester casing on all models. As a result, the tire should be a bit more comfortable on the road, but you will lose a bit of durability in off-road situations.

How does it behave on dry tarmac?

I have to be honest, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 surprised me by how well it performed on dry roads.

The tire has more than enough grip and traction for most use cases, meaning that you have a tire with plenty of breathing room. You can reach the limits, but it’s not something that most people would experience within the tire’s lifespan.

As for the handling, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 does a good job. It is surprisingly well responsive, and despite the flex in the sidewall, things aren’t too terrible. With that said, the feedback through the steering wheel is almost non-existent.

The weakest point of the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is the braking distance. It’s still competitive within its class, but tires like the Continental TerrainContact A/T do a better job.

How does it behave over wet and slippery roads?

Wet performance with the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is excellent, putting the tire at the top of the list in the premium segment.

Bridgestone’s claims about the improvement over the previous generation are true. It’s not like you get tons of more traction, but the difference is noticeable. You’ll have excellent balance and stability with the Dueler A/T Revo 3, something that not too many tires in this category do this well.

You will also experience excellent safety from this tire. The aquaplaning resistance is excellent and is accompanied by very short braking distances.

How is it over snow?

The Dueler A/T Revo 3 is good enough in snowy conditions but not a replacement for a dedicated winter tire.

As an all-season tire, you shouldn’t expect the best snow performance, which should be expected since the tire doesn’t have the 3PMSF rating. In lighter snow conditions, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is usable in packed and unpacked snow. The deep grooves do a great job of enabling the tire to perform well in slush.

Safety in snowy conditions is what the Dueler A/T Revo 3 does good. Thanks to the relatively short braking distances and easy-to-control manner, you won’t experience twitchy driving, something that some all-season tires are prone to.

The performance ends there, and in deeper snow, the tire will begin to struggle. Since it’s not a winter tire, you also shouldn’t expect decent traction over ice.

Snow Rating: 4/5

Is it comfortable and refined?

The Dueler A/T Revo 3 isn’t designed to be the most refined tire, so don’t get your hopes up. With that said, it’s not the worst performer in this department.

Comfort levels are great, which has a lot to do with the internal construction. The 2-ply casing means that the sidewall is softer, and the tire can absorb bumps. It doesn’t do that excellently, and you will feel deeper bumps, but the smaller ones will be ironed out pretty well.

Noise also isn’t a problem, as the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is acceptably quiet. Any kind of off-road tire will produce noise in certain scenarios, and the same goes for this one. For the most part, you should expect to hear some roar when driving on the highway.

Comfort Rating: 4/5

Is it good for off-roading?

As an all-terrain tire, I have to admit that the Dueler A/T Revo 3 isn’t as good as its competitors.

On the traction side of things, the performance is average, and you shouldn’t have too many problems in lighter conditions. Dirt roads and mud won’t be an issue as long as you don’t ask the tire to do something extreme.

Rock-crawling is not too bad when you deflate the tire enough, but you are risking some damage. Due to the internal construction, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 won’t be able to be as durable as some of the other all-terrain tires.

Is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 ideal for sporty driving?

No, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is not a good choice if you are after some sporty driving. Even though the tire has plenty of grip and traction, some aspects aren’t very positive.

Tires intended for sporty driving are responsive and provide feedback, and this one only checks one of those boxes. The lack of feedback and the flexible sidewall make this less-than-ideal tire for sporty driving.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 Warranty

Warranty isn’t something that the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is lacking. The tire comes with a 60,000-mile treadwear warranty, which is as much as the Goodyear Wrangler A/T Adventure with Kevlar has. That is a 10,000-miles longer warranty than the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 Pricing: Is it worth the money?

Even though Bridgestone is a premium brand, the prices for the Dueler A/T Revo 3 are slightly lower. It starts from $187 and is somewhat cheaper than the premium competitors I’ve mentioned previously.

Should I buy the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3?

Yes, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is an excellent all-terrain tire, but there are a few things that you should be aware of before you buy it.

The road performance of the tire is excellent, as expected from a premium all-terrain tire. Traction and grip levels are more than enough for the average driver in wet and dry conditions. On the braking side of things, the stopping distances in dry are not as impressive as on wet roads. The good news is that the aquaplaning resistance is excellent, meaning that you generally have a very safe tire. Snow performance is acceptably good as long as you are driving in light conditions.

Off-road performance, on the other hand, isn’t as impressive. The Dueler A/T Revo 3 isn’t a tire that can deliver the best off-road performance in this category, so going for something like the Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure or BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 may be a better option.

One of the things that make the Dueler A/T Revo 3 an average off-road performer is why the comfort levels are good. It will deal with road imperfections quite good and combined with the acceptable noise levels, you have a decently refined tire.

The price and warranty combination is an excellent one. You have a tire with one of the longest warranties in the premium segment at an acceptable price.

In general, the Dueler A/T Revo 3 is an excellent tire for the casual off-roader that spends most of the time on paved surfaces. If you need something with better off-road performance, you should be looking at some of the other options in this class.
