In most cases, people’s idea of new tires consists of a set that can deliver several things. For the most part, these tires provide decent performance, emphasizing safety, longevity, and refinement. Despite the popularity of touring tires, other options can excel in other areas.
There are specific tire models designed to provide excellent performance. Going for an option like this means that you will get a superb grip and traction levels, combined with excellent handling characteristics. With that said, you will be sacrificing a bit on refinement and longevity.
Performance tires aren’t anything new to the market, and there are several types. For the best possible performance, you should be looking at ultra-high performance tires or UHP for short.
A common misconception is the UHP tires are produced only by premium manufacturers. There are budget-friendly brands that produce UHP tires and the one for today’s review comes from a US brand.
Ironman tires is part of the Hercules Tire and Rubber Company, founded in 1952. The brand sells cheap tires, and unlike some of the other cheap Chinese brands, this one seems to offer decently performing tires.
The UHP model I had in mind is the iMove Gen2 AS – a performance-oriented all-season tire. Despite the lower price point, the tire has a good set of features that should enable it to perform well.
What are the features of the Ironman iMove Gen2 AS?
Ironman’s iMove Gen2 AS features a specific rubber compound with two advantages. On the one hand, the compound is designed to make the tire usable in winter conditions and provide traction on wet roads. On the other hand, it’s categorized as wear-resistant, meaning that the tire should be long-lasting.
Another aspect of the tire that should provide its longevity is the pressure distribution. Thanks to it, the iMove Gen2 AS is designed to even out the contact patch, resulting in consistent performance and even wear throughout the tire’s lifespan.
As for wet conditions, the tread design should give the iMove Gen2 AS its performance in those conditions. For damp roads, the sipes throughout the tire should enhance the traction and work in combination with the rubber compound.
The iMove Gen2 AS features 4 circumferential and plenty of lateral grooves for deeper water patches. These are to enable the tire to channel water away from the blocks, which should provide excellent aquaplaning resistance.
In the handling department, the iMove Gen2 AS features an asymmetric pattern designed to make it more responsive and provide enhanced traction.
How does it behave on dry tarmac?
UHP tires are designed to provide superior performance in dry conditions, and the iMove Gen2 AS can deliver. Remember that it’s not a performance option, so you shouldn’t expect superior performance.
The tire’s grip and traction levels are quite good. Both are very dependable, meaning that you can rely on the iMove Gen2 AS to keep you safe while maintaining the fun factor.
Accelerating aggressively or going into a corner at a higher speed won’t be too big of an issue. Even though the iMove Gen2 AS will remain planted, don’t expect it to be as good as a Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4.
Ironman designed the tire with handling in mind and delivered on that. The iMove Gen2 AS is quite responsive, considering that it’s a cheaper tire. It can change directions pretty quickly and offer a decent amount of feedback.
How does it behave over wet and slippery roads?
Wet roads aren’t always a tire’s best friend, which doesn’t seem to be the case with the iMove Gen2 AS. The performance in these conditions is decent and won’t disappoint too much.
Traction levels are pretty good, and the iMove Gen2 AS can hook up well. If you drive a more powerful car, it will slip if you push it too much, but you can expect it to perform excellently.
Going into a corner at higher speeds is another area where the iMove Gen2 AS will perform well. I wouldn’t say that it’s the best tire for wet track driving, but on the roads, it’s more than capable. With this, you can be sure that you’d be getting relatively short braking distances. With that said, something like the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 will offer shorter ones.
Ironman’s tread design seems to be doing a good job in deeper water patches. The iMove Gen2 AS delivers pretty good aquaplaning resistance and remains decently stable in these conditions.
How is it over snow?
Despite being an all-season tire with the M+S rating, the iMove Gen2 AS isn’t a particularly good performer in these conditions. The tire can be considered usable, but it will struggle in cases where other tires wouldn’t.
Traction and grip levels are very limited, and the iMove Gen2 AS may struggle in some cases. In the lightest conditions with not a lot of snow, the tire may be fine, and you can drive it daily. If the conditions are harsher or the snow is packed, you shouldn’t rely too much on it.
When it comes to safety, the iMove Gen2 AS isn’t a tire that will deliver the shortest braking distances. They are considered safe, but you will find plenty of competitors that can do better.
Is it comfortable and refined?
Looking at the refinement, UHP tires aren’t exactly comparable to touring tires. With that said, the iMove Gen2 AS isn’t a particularly poor performer.
The comfort levels are pretty decent, considering the tire has a stiffer sidewall. It does a good job at absorbing bumps and delivering a pretty comfortable experience. As good as it sounds, the iMove Gen2 AS won’t completely eliminate vibrations and smooth out all the bumps.
Ironman’s tread design not only improves grip, but it also helps reduce noise levels. With that, the iMove Gen2 AS is not a particularly loud tire. The tire will produce a hum, which is most noticeable over rougher surfaces.
Is it good for off-roading?
Like most road-going tires, the iMove Gen2 AS isn’t particularly good at off-roading.
Despite the wear-resistant rubber compound, the tire isn’t designed to perform in those conditions. Even though you can drive it on a dirt road, the traction and grip levels will be limited. On top of that, the tire won’t handle that kind of abuse, and there is a good chance that you’ll limit its longevity.
Is the Ironman iMove Gen2 AS ideal for sporty driving?
The iMove Gen2 AS is a UHP tire, and it manages to deliver excellent sporty performance. Like I said before, it may not be as good as the premium options, but it’s still a pretty decent performer.
There is plenty of grip and traction, meaning that you can push the tire and get excellent performance. Combined with that, you also have a very responsive tire, which will give you a more dynamic feel.

The area where the tire falls short is the warranty. Unlike most of its competitors like the Lufenn S Fit AS, the iMove Gen2 AS has no treadwear warranty.

Ironman produces tires that fall in the cheap segment, and the iMove Gen2 AS is no exception. The 14-inch models start from a little over $50, which is very affordable.
Should I buy the Ironman iMove Gen2 AS?
You should consider the iMove Gen2 AS, just as you should consider a few things about it.
The iMove Gen2 AS is advertised as a UHP tire, and it delivers on that front. You get respectable dry and wet performance combined with a decently dynamic tire.
Despite being an all-season tire, the iMove Gen2 AS isn’t very good in winter conditions. Even in lighter situations, you may notice it struggling for traction, which is a big downside.
Looking at the refinement, the iMove Gen2 AS is not the worst UHP tire on the market. The comfort and noise levels are pretty good, and even though it’s not a touring tire, it’s also not terribly refined.
The iMove Gen2 AS isn’t perfect, especially when it comes to the warranty. Ironman doesn’t offer a treadwear warranty, and you only rely on the 60-month Limited Protection Policy. It covers the workmanship and material defect within that time.
One of the reasons why you’d be looking into the iMove Gen2 AS is the price. Considering the price per performance ratio, this is a tire that will appeal to people looking for a decent UHP at an affordable price.
The way things look, the iMove Gen2 AS is not a bad tire to have. Considering the overall performance, I wouldn’t recommend it for a powerful vehicle, or in case you need it to perform well in winter.
If you’re fine with both or the lack of a treadwear warranty, then the iMove Gen2 AS is a decent option.
