Unfortunately, the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus doesn’t have that pattern, meaning it’s a poor performer even in light snow. Short distances may be acceptable, but you’ll need to drive extra carefully.
On the ice, things take a turn for the worse, as the rubber compound has almost no traction. I usually say that all-season tires are usable in light snow conditions, but the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus isn’t.
If you want to own this tire, you’ll need to make sure to have a winter set as well.
Is it comfortable and refined?
Yes, the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus is among the best in class regarding comfort and noise.
Regardless if the surface you’re driving has minor imperfections or big bumps, the tire will smooth things out. Larger potholes won’t be unnoticeable, but most of the impact will be absorbed by the tire.
In terms of noise levels, the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus performs marvelously. It’s among the quietest grand touring tires currently available on the market. Rougher road surfaces may result in a slightly more tire roar, but it’s still quiet. If your car has a good sound insulation, you may not even hear the tires at all.
Is it good for off-roading?
Bridgestone designed the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus to be installed on an SUV, but despite that, the off-road performance isn’t very good.
The reason why the tire performed poorly in snow conditions is the same it won’t be any good even for off-roading. Since the tread pattern doesn’t have a zig-zag design, mud is out of the question.

This is not something you’ll want to see in a grand touring tire.

In terms of performance and comfort, this is a tire that is worth it. It starts from $153 for the smallest tires, which may sound a lot. You tend to forget that as soon as you realize how safe and well behaved the tire is.
As for longevity, I cannot be sure, but I feel like the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus disappoints, based on owners’ reports.
Should I buy the Bridgestone Ecopic H/L 422 Plus?
You should buy the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus, and you shouldn’t. It’s not often I get mixed feelings about a tire, but this is one of those. Let me explain why.
Grand touring tires are designed with few key features in mind – safety, comfort, and longevity.
On the safety side of things, the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus doesn’t disappoint at all. The levels of grip are excellent for this type of tire, and when you combine them with a driving characteristic, it almost gives you a sporty feel. Traction is no problem, regardless if it’s dry or wet or the type of car you drive. Another area where the tire excels is the braking distances, reaching some of the shortest ones in the category.
Unfortunately, the snow performance is terrible, which is why I wouldn’t recommend it at all. You will either need to be in an area where there’s no winter or have a separate set of winter tires.
Throw in the reduced rolling resistance into the mix, and the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus is a tire that can also help fuel economy a bit.
For comfort and noise, it’s a tire that also doesn’t disappoint. The comfort is superb, and the tire manages to iron out most of the smaller imperfections or minimize the thump you get when you hit a pothole. Noise is almost nonexistent regardless of the surface you’re driving on.
Now it’s time for the biggest drawback – longevity. Despite the long treadwear warranty, the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus barely manages to reach 40,000 miles, which is among the worst in its class.
To summarize things up – if you’re looking for a grand touring tire with excellent performance and refinement, the Ecopia H/L 422 Plus is a great option. For longevity, you should look elsewhere.
