Ohtsu designed the FP0612 A/S as a combination of high-performance and touring all-season tires.
These kinds of combinations don’t work all that well, as the tires may excel in one area and fall short in another. In this case, Ohtsu seems to found a good recipe for decent balance while maintaining the affordable price.
The FP0612 A/S has the typical asymmetric design and large tread blocks, something you will find on high-performance competitors. As a result, Ohtsu can make some bolder claims about the performance and grip levels. The result of this type of design is a rubber that can cope well in most conditions, even for spirited drivers.
Speaking of conditions, Ohtsu’s combination of materials for the tire compound is what enables it to be rated as an all-season tire. It means that unlike tires designed for a specific season, these can work well all year round.
Down the middle, the FP0612 A/S has 4 grooves and sipes in charge of tackling the task of keeping the car planted in wet conditions. The bonus of all of this is the fact that the aquaplaning resistance should be adequate.
The sipes that FP0612 A/S has work in combination with the asymmetrical treads and block design to find grip in more extreme scenarios, like snow, ice, or some loose surfaces like dirt and gravel.

Ohtsu advertises the FP0612 A/S as a high-performance tire, and on dry pavement, you won’t be disappointed. The tires feel planted and have plenty of grip for everyday driving. Regardless if you are driving on the highway or a twisty road, the tires will comply with every steering input without breaking a sweat.
When you start pushing too much, you will notice them breaking traction, something that most people would never experience on normal roads.
In terms of breaking, the distance is far from record-breaking, but the FP0612 A/S is easily comparable with some of the mid-level tire brands.
How does the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S behave over wet and slippery roads?
The story of decent performance continues in the wet department, and the FP0612 A/S tackled wet roads with no problems.
Thanks to the tread design and sipes, any water gets thrown aside, providing excellent grip. As a result, this also means that the aquaplaning resistance is excellent.
To be fair, I cannot classify the FP0612 A/S as the best tires for wet driving, but they are on top of the class. The braking distance is also great, and you may feel them losing traction only when you push them too hard.
How is the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S over snow?
All-season tires are designed to be driven throughout all 4 seasons in a year, but in many cases, the weakest point is snow. The same can be said for the FP0612 A/S.
In lighter snow conditions, the tires will have a decent grip and get the job done. However, don’t expect to push them too hard, as there aren’t too many all-season tires that have exceptional performance on snow. In general, they will get the job done, but don’t expect to be super-surprised.
When the snow is deeper or packed, the FP0612 A/S will not be a good choice. They will constantly struggle to find grip, which you will notice mostly on packed snow and ice. For these conditions, I’d recommend going for winter tires designed for driving on snow.
Is the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S comfortable and refined?
The FP0612 A/S are advertised as touring tires, meaning that comfort and noise should be decent. But, unfortunately, that is not the case.
For ride comfort, I wouldn’t place them in the most comfortable tires, but I also wouldn’t rate them as the worst. When a tire manufacturer tries to balance between performance and comfort, one manages to dominate. The FP0612 A/S are slightly firmer, and you may feel the road imperfections a bit.
In terms of noise, I feel like the tires have two modes – quiet and loud. When you drive in the city at slower speeds, they are quiet, and you may not even hear them. The problem occurs at higher speeds. In those situations, there is a drowning sound that will seem like it will never go away.
The comfort and refinement are not terrible and are still on top of the class. However, with that said, you should be aware that Ohtsu put a slightly higher emphasis on performance instead of comfort.
Is the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S good for off-roading?
It mostly depends on what you define as off-roading. If you need to drive over some dirt roads, the FP0612 A/S will be just fine. On the other hand, if you start to get to a rocky surface, you may get away with it, but I wouldn’t recommend that.
Finally, for muddy terrain, I would strictly advise you against it. The FP0612 A/S are not designed for some aggressive off-roading scenarios, meaning that you will definitely get stuck.
Is the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S ideal for sporty driving?
Don’t expect the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S to be compared with some of the premium high-performance tires. Regardless of how well they perform, they are not the best set of tires you’d want to take to the track.
You can have some fun on a twisty road and push them a bit harder, but at the end of the day, they may not perform as you may want them to.
Should I buy the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S?
The answer to this question mainly depends on your need, but if you are looking for cheaper tires with decent performance on dry and wet, then the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S is an excellent choice.

The lower price tag means that you can expect more than one sacrifice. In the case of the FP0612 A/S, the second sacrifice in terms of the warranty. Ohtsu offers a 40,000-mile treadwear warranty, and at first glance, that doesn’t sound bad. The problem is that the warranty doesn’t cover other aspects like uniformity or workmanship.
Ohtsu FP0612 A/S Pricing: Is it worth the money?
Absolutely. The Ohtsu FP0612 A/S starts from around $35 for the 14-inch models. It means that they are priced slightly above the cheap Chinese tire brands and below the mid-tier models. In terms of performance, they may not be comparable with all mid-range tires, but based on the performance, I’d categorize them there.
Essentially, you have a cheap tire with decent performance and not too many sacrifices.
Overall, the Ohtsu FP0612 A/S is a decent all-season combination of performance and touring tires. On the performance side of things, you get class-leading grip and responsiveness in dry and wet conditions. In addition, any steering input is accepted with no hesitation. Sharp and quick to respond, you may not find them on racing cars, but they are certainly more than enough for regular driving.
Deeper or packed snow is where we start to see some compromise, which is not uncommon with all-seasons tires. Another slightly compromised aspect is comfort and refinement. The FP0612 A/S feels somewhat harsh for a touring tire, and the noise levels are not the lowest you’ll find.
With a 40,000-mile treadwear warranty, you get a decent high-performance and touring combination, where Ohtsu slightly favored the performance part.
