For many people who own CUVs, SUVs, or light trucks, the most common tire choice is a set of highway tires. Spending a lot of time on the road means that you’ll want a set of tires that will be comfortable, last long, and offer decent performance.
Blending all of these into a single package is something that many manufacturers seem to have done right. Considering that all manufacturers have different features, the performance won’t be the same, which is why we’re doing these reviews.
The tire industry has a plethora of manufacturers to choose from and the tire we have for today is the Geolandar H/T G056. As an all-season highway tire, can it compete against the big players in this category?

The Features of the Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056
The set of features of the Geolandar H/T G056 is pretty standard for a highway tire, meaning that Yokohama paid attention to all the aspects that matter.
Like with most tires in this category, this one is made using an all-season rubber compound, which is crucial for winter performance. Utilizing this kind of rubber ensures that the tire will deliver performance in colder temperatures or damp surfaces.
The symmetric pattern features an important design aimed at helping with traction in non-ideal conditions. There are triple 3D sipes across the blocks, which should help with performance on damp roads or packed snow.
Another notable design feature for winter performance is the zig-zag grooves. They bite into unpacked snow and additionally improve traction in these conditions. They also help the tire channel water and offer stability when driving in harsh rain.
Yokohama worked on optimizing the tread design to help the tire with refinement. The area that’s worth mentioning is the noise levels. By utilizing an optimized pattern, the manufacturer aims to have a tire with low noise levels, a key feature of most highway models.
Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 in Dry Conditions
The performance of the Geolandar H/T G056 in dry conditions is very good, which shouldn’t be a surprise.
There’s enough traction to keep the wheel spin to a minimum. Make no mistake, the tire will slip, but only with more powerful vehicles and if you accelerate aggressively. Considering its application, the grip levels are very high. It remains planted without much understeer, which is pretty good considering the category. The braking distances are very impressive and the tire stops a bit shorter than the TerrainContact H/T.
A slight surprise with this tire was the handling. I wouldn’t call it sporty, but the responsiveness makes it a bit more dynamic when compared with many of its rivals. The on-center feel is also pretty impressive, crucial for making micro adjustments on the highway.
Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 on Wet or Slippery Roads
I was expecting the Geolandar H/T G056 to do quite well in wet conditions, but the performance was a bit disappointing.
The traction and grip levels on damp roads are good enough for daily driving scenarios and that’s as much as this tire can offer. Once you start to get a bit aggressive, you’ll notice that too many inputs may unsettle it. This is where you start to notice slip or understeer. Also, the braking distances are not the best. Surprisingly, they are just a bit behind the ones of the Crugen HT51.
In terms of the aquaplaning resistance, it’s not class-leading, but solid. The thing to note is that the performance isn’t the best, so you won’t be driving too fast.
Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 in Snow
The winter performance of the Geolandar H/T G056 is acceptable, which is another slightly disappointing side of it.
Even if you’re driving in lighter conditions, the traction will be behind many of its rivals. As a result, this is a tire that you shouldn’t get too aggressive with. It can hook up eventually, but during the initial acceleration, you’ll notice it slipping. While it can go around a corner, you’ll need to be mindful of the speed if you want to avoid understeer. The braking distances are also not something impressive. They’re safe, but longer than many of its rivals.
Things don’t improve much when you’re driving on ice. Sure, most all-season tires will be okay-ish in these conditions, but this one is far from that. To be honest, I wouldn’t rely too much on it in these conditions, even in a pinch.
Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 Off-Roading
A common misconception is that highway tires are good off-roading models because most of them are for SUVs or light trucks. The Geolandar H/T G056 and any other tire in this category shouldn’t be used on non-paved surfaces. You won’t have enough performance and you’ll be compromising the longevity. Short drives on hard-packed surfaces may be fine, and for anything more, you’ll need to consider at least an all-terrain tire.
Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 for Sporty Driving
There is an aspect of the Geolandar H/T G056 that may fool you into thinking that it’s a sporty tire, but it’s far from it. The handling is dynamic for a highway tire, which is the surprising part. With that said, it’s far from a performance-oriented model, which is evident from the overall performance even in dry conditions.
Does the Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 Ride Comfortably?
Highway tires are advertised as being well-refined and I feel like the Geolandar H/T G056 is lacking in this area as well.
The noise levels are pretty good and in most cases, the tire’s hum isn’t the most noticeable one. This is in situations when you’re driving on smoother roads. On rougher ones, there are some distinctive notes that you will notice. They aren’t too loud, but noticeable, nonetheless.
I feel like comfort is the area where the tire needs more improvement. The dynamic handling nature means that it negatively impacts the ride quality. It’s not unbearably harsh, but the ride is a bit stiffer.
Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 Warranty
In terms of warranty, the Geolandar H/T G056 does pretty well. It comes with a 70,000-mile treadwear warranty for P-metric sizes or 50,000 for the LT ones. This is identical to the Defender LTX M/S2, which is good, at least in terms of the P-metric tires. For the LT ones, it’s behind the Continental model.
Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056 Pricing: Is It Worth the Price?
The Geolandar H/T G056 has a competitive price, which is very close to its mid-range rivals. A 17-inch LT model is priced similarly to the Pinza HT or the Discoverer HT3. This also means that it’s more affordable than many of the premium tires.
Should I Buy the Yokohama Geolandar H/T G056?
Regardless of which tire you’re looking at, you will find some faults. With the Geolandar H/T G056, there are a bit more than I’d like to, so it’s far from the perfect tire.
The area where the tire offers the best performance is in dry conditions. As a package, it’s very close to the premium models, which is a very good thing. Unfortunately, wet and winter performances aren’t as impressive. It’s not terribly unsafe, but it falls behind many of its rivals.
Refinement is something that it does well enough, at least in terms of the noise levels. The ride quality is a bit on the stiff side, but not the worst. A saving grace is the competitive price and premium-like warranty, so it’s not the worst.
The Geolandar H/T G056 is a solid tire with a few flaws, but I still wouldn’t say that you should avoid it. It should be fine, as long as you don’t rely too much on it for winter performance. You can at least keep it on your list.
